Ophthalmic Technician
South Naples, FL
$2,500 sign on bonus ONLY for experienced Ophthalmic Assistants!
$1,250 after 90 days and $1,250 at 6 months.

Position Summary
This position assists the provider in delivering patient care; should be able to perform visual acuities, diagnostic and specialized testing, administration of medication, injections, and assist with minor procedures and laser treatments.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Document chief complaint, medical history, medications, present illness, review of systems, and relevant findings from patient
  • Ensure prior authorizations are cleared for specialized testing and procedures
    • If not cleared, contact verification team to get authorization prior to proceeding
    • Educate patients of any delays
  • Document physician findings and treatment plans in chart; attach all pertinent photos and test results, as required
  • Perform testing on patients, as needed; assist physician with testing, as needed
  • Perform minor procedures on patients, as directed by physician; assist physician with minor procedures, as directed by physician
  • Remove bandages, sutures, and other wound coverings
  • Employee should be able to accurately and efficiently perform the following tests:
    • Visual acuity measurement
    • Color vision testing
    • Lensometry
    • Keratometry
    • Pupil function testing
    • Tonometry
    • Refraction
    • Confrontational Visual Field
    • Evaluation of EOMs
    • Automated and Manual Perimetry
    • Ocular Motility
    • Ultrasonography (A-scan & B-scan)
    • Ophthalmic Photography (OCT and Topography)
  • Recommend additional products/services ECOF offers to patients
  • Complete all assigned tasks in Practice Management
  • Audit charts daily
  • Attend all continuing education and training, as required
  • Works rotational Saturday schedule, as required
  • Willing to travel and work in different locations as business needs arise, from time to time

Minimum Qualifications
  • Education: High School Diploma/GED required.
  • Experience: 3+ years of experience in hands-on medical/surgical setting preferred.

  • Strong organizational skills and a demonstrated ability to work well under pressure
  • Effective oral communication skills; demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with internal and external customers; requires tact, diplomacy, and empathy
  • Effective written communication skills; demonstrated ability to write clearly, neatly, and accurately
  • English proficiency required; bilingual preferred
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and abbreviations preferred
  • Must be able to type and use word processing software
  • Must be able to use database and spreadsheet software
  • Must have knowledge of online services and the Internet
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality of proprietary and sensitive information
